Thank You Argos!

On Thursday night, June 4, 2009, the Argos Youth League Girls Softball 13 U Team hosted their first home game on our newly renovated field. In the past games were held at the Argos Community Park on the North Field which has a grass infield. It was decided by the AYL board that to meet the needs of the growing interest in girls softball they would need their own field. Now the girls will play on a regulation softball field--complete with a full aggregate infield! After receiving permission from the Argos Park Board to renovate an abandond field south-west of the High School; work began in the fall of 2008 with stripping and regrading the field with new aggregate. The existing Backstop was used with plans to re-paint it at a later date. Other improvements include two new dug outs, new concession stand, and new scoreboard. Total cost of the renovation is nearly $6,000. All materials were purchased with money that was raised via sponsorship banners, concession sales, team sponsorships, and private donations. All labor was provided by the AYL board members, coaches and local volunteers.

Special thanks to Langfeldt Excavating, Miami Trucking, Hensley Concrete, Rowe Accounting, Stevens Roofing & Siding, Transit Mix, Big C Lumber, Lowes, The Robert Henry Corporation, Michiana Contracting, Concrete Creations, Mike Houin, Tucker Thayer, the Town of Argos, and all of those who contributed their time and talent to helping build the softball field for our current and future players!

Schedules

Schedules are available by clicking on the left side of our page on the Forms and Schedules under our Forms section. Softball will be posted shortly.

A New Era

The AYL leased land SW of the high school in October 2008. Today, our new softball field will begin to build on the new program that AYL started just several years ago. Here are the features of the new field:

  1. All aggregate infield
  2. New dugouts
  3. New scoreboard
  4. Concession Stand/Press Box

While we do not have spectator seating, we advise you to please bring a lawn chair to enjoy the games. We will be hosting softball and t-ball games throughout the summer as well as a softball tournament this July 11 and 12. If you have not seen the new field, please make an arrangement to see what we have accomplished. Thanks to all of our sponsors and to those who donated time and talent to its completion!

From the President

2009 is going to be a year to remember as far as our economy is concerned. If you are holding back signing your kids up to play baseball or softball this year because of hard times, please do not hesitate to call me at home at 574-892-5051 or email me at joekindig@gmail.com. We at the AYL are more than willing to make arrangements so that your child can play baseball or softball this summer. Scholarships are available to those who qualify as well as any financial assistance or payment plan that you may need. THE ARGOS YOUTH LEAGUE WILL NOT TURN ANYONE AWAY WHO CANNOT PAY THEIR FEES UP FRONT! No child should be left behind because of these hard times. If your child would like to play, please sign them up as soon as you can and we can set up an arrangement. You can contact me personally if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Joe Kindig
